BACKGROUND

One of the primary objectives of the informatics development program is to boost a substantial improvement in the training of human resources in the technical, undergraduate and graduate levels that will generate the number of quality specialists required to meet the needs of all country sectors. As part of the planned actions to advance in the achievement of this objective, activities related to the accreditation of senior level academic programs in informatics and computing were undertaken. To achieve this goal, the program includes the following strategies: -Evaluate and update the curricula of informatics programs in the aforementioned levels. -Strengthen the physical and human infrastructure of educational institutions offering programs in informatics. Based on this strategies, specific actions related to curriculum, teaching staff and infrastructure were defined. Among which stands to promote a quality accreditation project for curriculum of informatics specialists at all levels. Therefore, the Asociación Nacional de Instituciones de Educación en Informática (ANIEI), proposed the creation of an accreditation committee that would set quality criteria to be met by educational institutions dedicated to teaching informatics and computing. Likewise, ANIEI established relations with the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board (CSAB), which is the main body for accrediting in the United States. From this, in 1995 the ANIEI formed the Comité de Acreditación de Informática y Computación, which in coordination with Instituto Nacional de Estadística, Geografía e Informática (INEGI), the Comités Interinstitucionales para la Evaluación de la Educación Superior (CIEES) and the Consejo de Acreditación de la Enseñanza de la Ingeniería, A.C. (CACEI) gave rise to the Consejo Nacional de Acreditación en Informática y Computación (CONAIC).
